Pakistan cricket team batter Babar Azam once again failed to live up to the expectations as he was dismissed for a three-ball duck in WI vs PAK 2nd ODI. The out-of-form batter has simply been unable to break free from the shackles of poor form across formats, and on occasions when he has gotten a good start, he has failed to convert it into a big knock. Sidelined from T20Is, the former Pakistan skipper had en number of golden opportunities to storm back into form in 2025. However, that hasn’t been the case so far.

Babar Azam’s century drought ensues

The last time Babar scored a century in any format of the game was way back in 2023 in the Asia Cup against Nepal. Since then, the Pakistan batter has played 28 ODIs but has only scored 929 runs, averaging 37.16 and maintaining a miserable strike rate of 79.53. Although he has managed to register 9 fifty plus knocks, he has never managed to go past the 80-run mark so far.

The story is the same in Tests and T20Is too. The game against Nepal in 2023, where he scored his last hundred (151), seems to be the end of Azam’s golden run in cricket. Since that game, he averages 23.15 from 10 Tests and 33.54 from 24 T20Is. In 2023, he scored zero Test fifties, followed by one in 2024 and two in 2025.

The last time Babar featured in a T20I was back in December 2024. While he did manage to score six half-centuries from 24 games in the previous year, he was dropped from Pakistan’s side for the shortest format of the game.

Once considered a member of the Fab 5 comprising of Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli, Babar is now on the verge of losing his place in the group, thanks to his poor form. While Pakistan may be tempted to include him in their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, he could turn out to be more of a bane than a boon for the side.
