Steve Smith acredita que as raízes podem ser facilmente excedidas de um Sachin Tendulkar para se tornar o maior interior do futuro
Australia cricket team batter Steve Smith has thrown his weight behind Joe Root to go past Sachin Tendulkar’s historic record in the future. The former England skipper is currently the second highest run-getter in Tests with 13,543 runs to his name. Root, a run-machine, continues to amass runs, along with fifties and hundreds, and might as well breach Tendulkar’s record for most runs in Tests if his fine form goes on for another couple of years.
Can Root go past Sachin? Smith thinks so
Speaking on Sony Sports Network, Smith claimed that Root had a real chance to surpass Sachin to become the greatest Test batter. Considered as one among the Fab 4 which comprised of Root, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and himself, the Australian batter has a long way to go before he catches up with Root, with 10477 runs to his name. Smith said that Root was batting pretty well at the moment and that he would surely go past Tendulkar if he continued to do so.
“I don’t see why he cannot.“He’s batting pretty well at the moment. And yeah, it looks like he’s got a while to play yet as well. So, if he keeps playing the way that he is at the moment, it’s certainly a real chance to take over Sachin. That’s for sure,” Smith said.
While Kohli has retired from Tests, Smith and Williamson’s form has seen a dip over the last few years. It is only Root who continues to amass runs consistently, moving up the leaderboard. He already has three hundreds and a half-century to his name in the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series. He is fourth in the list of most tons in Tests, behind Sachin Tendulkar, (51), Jacques Kallis (45), and Ricky Ponting (41).
