Rishabh Pant retired hurt: What happened?

Rishabh Pant looked well settled at 37 building a vital partnership with Sai Sudharsan in the middle. Facing Chris Woakes, Pant attempted an audacious reverse sweep, only to be hit flush on his foot. The 27-year-old immediately went down and looked in severe pain as the physio rushed on.

Pant could barely move or keep his foot on the ground as a result. Visuals showcased a massive swelling on his right foot, along with some bleeding. The extent of the injury was not known, but Pant was helped off by the physio off the field. Pant was then retired hurt and taken off in a little ambulance for further treatment. Ravindra Jadeja was summoned to continue India’s innings.

Will Rishabh Pant bat or keep again in the IND vs ENG 4th Test?

An update on Rishabh Pant’s condition will determine his participation for the rest of the game. Should Pant be unable to keep, India could call upon Dhruv Jurel who kept wickets while Pant recovered from a finger injury at Lord’s. With this being a new injury, India will be allowed a sub wicketkeeper for their vice-captain in Manchester. As for batting, India will play a batter short should Pant not recover in time.
