Gus Atkinson wreaked havoc on Team India’s lower-order as he finished with a five-wicket haul in the 1st innings of IND vs ENG 5th Test. Atkinson got an early breakthrough in the IND vs ENG 5th Test by getting rid of Yashasvi Jaiswal cheaply in the 4th over on Day 1. On Day 2, he struck four time within the first session of play to bundle out India for just 224 runs. His victims included Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. Three out of four batters were caught behind off the England pacer while Siraj was cleaned up by Atkinson after facing just 4 deliveries.
Atkinson, who missed the last four Tests, was included in the squad for the 5th Test at The Oval. England were forced to make four changes to their playing XI in London, benching Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse and Liam Dawson.
After a rain-curtailed Day 1 where only 64 overs were possible, Day 2 play could be interrupted again. India Cricket Team ended Day 1 at 204/6, thanks to Karun Nair’s unbeaten 52 and Washington Sundar’s 19. The two added an unbeaten 51-run stand after India lost their big guns to Josh Tongue and Gus Atkinson in the 5th Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval, London.
