In a fresh development, Kolkata Knight Riders are reportedly interesting in securing the services of KL Rahul via trade ahead of IPL 2026. The Karnataka batter was bagged by Delhi Capitals for Rs 14 crore after he was released by his ex-franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the mega auction. Rahul was the leading run-getter for DC in IPL 2025, amassing 539 runs from 13 innings.
KL Rahul to be traded to KKR?
As per Times of India, KKR are keen on acquiring the services of Rahul via trade ahead of IPL 2026. If the deal is secured, it could be a win-win for the Knight Riders and a much-needed boost for the team. Rahul could serve a dual role – as a captain and as a keeper for KKR.
After releasing Shreyas Iyer ahead of the mega-auction, the team named Ajinkya Rahane – who was bought for Rs 1.50 crore – as the new captain. The three-time IPL champions finished 8th on the points table, managing to win just 5 out of 14 games.
At present, KKR do not have an Indian wicketkeeper in their squad. Neither Quinton de Kock nor Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the two keepers in the side, lived up to their expectations in IPL 2025.
Rahul, who can act as a keeper-batter and can also captain the team, could be a valuable addition to the KKR squad. While the Karnataka star did not keep wickets for DC in IPL 2025, he is no stranger to donning the keeper’s gloves.
It remains to be seen if DC will be remotely interested to trade Rahul – since he was their highest run-getter in the previous season.
