Sunil Gavaskar Ride elogia em Shubman Gill e continua que não importa o capitão indiano falhou
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has rated captain Shubman Gill over him after the latter’s phenomenal run in the IND vs ENG Test series. The Punjab batter narrowly missed out on breaking Sunny’s record for most runs in a Test series, finishing the tour with 754 runs to his name. However, Gavaskar reckons that Gill has performed extraordinarily, since he managed to amass over 750 runs despite having the additional responsibility of captaincy.
Gavaskar can’t stop praising fantastic Gill
After stumps on Day 3, Gavaskar presented a signed cap and a jersey to Gill and appreciated him for his performance in the series. Speaking on Sony Sports Network to Cheteshwar Pujara and Sanjana Ganesan, he said that there was no comparison between him & Gill, as he was the baby of the team while the latter had made a difference despite being the captain.
“Mine, I was the baby of the team, it wouldn’t have mattered. If I failed, nobody would have given a hoot. As the captain, to score 754 runs. More than 750 runs, where he is making the difference to his side’s fortunes. Don’t go by those 20 runs, just see what those 754 runs have done for Indian cricket,” Gavaskar said.
With 754 runs in this series, Gill is now only behind Don Bradman on the list of captains with most runs in a Test series by a captain. Although he failed to breach Gavaskar’s 54-year-old record of 771 runs, the former Indian cricketer dubbed Shubman’s show as nothing but fantastic.
“Well, yes, in anticipation of him going past my record, I had gotten something for him. This is all in God’s hands. But 754 runs, it’s fantastic. The difference is that 754 runs have come with him having the additional responsibility of being the captain,” said Gavaskar
