As Copas Asiáticas 2025 são derrubadas na conta disputada nos Emirados Árabes Unidos entre os 10 e 28 de setembro.
The stalemate between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) might be over, for now. The two neighbouring boards were tussling over the venue of the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) annual meeting.
Headed by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC had decided to host the meeting in Dhaka on July 24. The BCCI wasn’t pleased with the decision, given the current political situation between India and Pakistan.
The BCCI had told ACC that if they don’t change the venue of the meeting, they won’t attend it. Furthermore, the cash-rich board warned that they won’t abide by any decision taken at the meeting either. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) were also expected to boycott the meeting.
The BCCI-PCB issue ends
However, the situation seems to have changed. According to Cricbuzz, a few members of the ACC will attend the meeting virtually. Naqvi and Pakistan Super League (PSL) CEO Salman Naseer have already reached Dhaka for the meeting, which will commence at 2 PM in Dhaka.
The BCCI is likely to attend the meeting virtually. Members of ACB are likely to be present, and SLC is expected to mark their presence virtually. The Asia Cup 2025 is the reason behind the sudden change of heart. A lot of money is on the line. And now the possibility of the tournament going ahead has significantly increased.
September 10 to 28 is the window for the Asia Cup. The ACC meeting will decide the final schedule. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) interim head Aminul Islam had received pushback from BCCI, but he says that hosting the meeting won’t change the relationship with BCCI or SLC.
“I don’t think so. Hosting the AGM without India and Sri Lanka will not have an impact on our relationship with these countries as far as cricketing ties are concerned. Cricket is above all. We are just the hosts. We have never hosted before. We will try to make it a good AGM,” Aminul was quoted by Cricbuzz.
