Pakistan Champions captain Shahid Afridi has claimed that Yuvraj Singh and co. were an embarrassment for the nation after they team decided to boycott the WCL 2025 semi-final. His remarks come after India pulled out of the semi-final clash against the arch-rivals, shortly after multiple stars in the team decided to boycott the group-stage clash against Pakistan in England. Stars like Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, Yusuf and Irfan Pathan decided to pull out of the contest against Pakistan owing to the geopolitical tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Afridi unhappy as India boycott Pakistan yet again in WCL 2025

In a video uploaded on social media platform X, Afridi claimed that India shouldn’t have boycotted the tie against Pakistan in WCL 2025, as it was a bridge to develop diplomacy between both countries. However, Afridi seems to forget his own lines when he had condemned the actions of Operation Sindoor when the Indian government hit back at terrorist camps in Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam attack earlier in May.

“There is no better diplomacy than cricket in sports. If we look at the relationship between India and Pakistan in the past, it has been bad. But not in sports. This is a disappointment. Fans are disappointed. Cricket should happen and politics should be kept away,” Afridi claimed.

Afridi further claimed that he had offered to sit out of the contest between India and Pakistan, going on to claim that “entertainment shouldn’t stop.” He further took a dig at the Indian players, asking them to be a better ambassador for the game than being an embarrassment. , India’s refusal to play Pakistan has resulted in them reaching the final of the tournament.

On the other hand, despite these pull outs, the BCCI has gotten the nod from the government, for the India vs Pakistan matches in the Asia Cup 2025. There, India could play the neighbours, not once, but thrice. The first match is guaranteed in the league stages, while the next one could be in the Super 4’s, and the last one could be in the final.
