Sean Williams assusta um século constante, mas a África do Sul mantém a vantagem e o cargo de 216-ran na base
A century from Sean Williams went in vain as South Africa strengthened their grip on the ZIM vs SA Test in Bulawayo. After the Proteas declared for 418/9, Zimbabwe were led by captain Williams’ excellent century. However, the reigning World Test Championships sealed a 167 run lead. Wiaan Mulder, who took 4 wickets with the ball, was at the crease as SA cruised to 49/1 at Stumps on Day 2.
Sean Williams fights lone battle, Mulder knocks over middle order
South Africa declared after posting an imposing 418, and Zimbabwe needed to get their innings order. However, debutant Codi Yusuf got opener Kaitano in the first over of the innings. Brian Bennett looked settled, but was retired hurt after being hit on the head by a Kwena Maphaka bouncer.
Sean Williams and Craig Ervine chipped in with a fine 94-run partnership but that was the only high point of Zimbabwe’s batting. Maharaj had his opposite number stumped, while Wiaan Mulder got 3 quick wickets. Williams’ counter attack eventually ended with Zimbabwe still on 249, and they were soon cleaned up for 251.
South Africa in the second innings lost Matthew Breetzke for 1. Wiaan Mulder and Tony de Zorzi guided the team to 49/1 at the close of Day 2. The Proteas lead by 216 and have a firm grip on the contest.
Zimbabwe will be disappointed having grassed such a promising start at home. The hosts had a second string Proteas side reeling at 55/4 on Day 1. However, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Corbin Bosch both smashed centuries, while Dewald Brevis also got a half-century in a sensational turn around. Zimbabwe have since not recovered and while Williams showed the way, he lacked the support from the rest.
