“Kl Rahul esteve em Kohli Virat Shadow, pode ir Shubman Gill”

Former England cricketer Owais Shah has backed KL Rahul to outscore India Test captain Shubman Gill amid the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series. The Karnataka batter, who returned as India’s opener following Rohit Sharma’s retirement, has already scored a couple of centuries in the series. Ahead of the IND vs ENG 4th Test in Manchester, Owais claimed that Rahul was India’s most reliable batter in the series.

KL Rahul > Shubman Gill?

Speaking on Beard Before Wicket podcast, the former England star explained that Rahul had previously operated under the shadow of Virat Kohli. He claimed that although Gill looked in good touch, Rahul could go on to outscore him in the coming months. Owais Shah called KL the best batter in the Indian line-up and backed him to emerge as India’s leading run-getter among the current lot over the next year.

“I still feel KL Rahul is the best batsman in the batting line-up who you should be able to rely on. And it is time for him to deliver the sort of numbers his technique and temperament promise. I feel KL, over 10-15 matches, may just outscore Shubman Gill. I think we will see him really come about in the next 12 months,” Shah said

Meanwhile, Gill has had a phenomenal series so far with the bat. He has a double century, a 150 and a century so far in the IND vs ENG Test series. At Edgbaston, Gill created history by becoming the first Indian to have a 200 and a 150 in a single game.

Shaw admitted that he did not anticipate Gill to be in such fine form.

“I think he’s (KL Rahul) been in the shadow of Kohli. With Kohli at the crease, he was always going to be your main batsman and Rahul was under the radar. But this is his time to flourish. This is the first series without Virat Kohli. Look at the batting order, yes Shubman Gill has done really well, I wasn’t expecting it. I did not think he had it in him to do what he’s done so far,” Shah said.
